Horazio Carletti, P.Eng

Chair 

Horazio has been chair of MentorUP Alberta – Edmonton chapter since 2013. In his time with MentorUP, he has focused on providing leadership and professional development opportunities to early career professionals and underrepresented groups in Alberta.  One of his goals is to raise the profile of STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduates in Alberta by forming relationships with professional associations, corporations, academia, and other groups. 

Horazio holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Toronto.   His experience includes, working as project manager for high tech companies. Currently, he serves as Project Manager with Technology Alberta..

Shaina Mahajan

Mentor-Mentee Relations Team

Shaina has been volunteering with MentorUP Alberta since 2015 in the Mentor-Mentee Relations team. She has a passion to promote STEM education and continuous learning. She was born and raised in India, where from grade 8 she started mentoring/tutoring youth and under privileged kids on science and mathematics. As a part of MentorUP, she is thrilled to contribute to the growth of STEM culture in Alberta. She also volunteers with AWSN and PASS - Edmonton Chapter. 

Shaina graduated from the University of Alberta with a Master's degree in Engineering Management. She loves working with numbers and forming strategies through data exploration. She is currently working at Canadian Western Bank in data analytics, and is a co-founder of WiMLDS (Women in Machine Learning and Data Science) - Edmonton Chapter. She loves to travel and play board games in her spare time.

Garima Chauhan

Content Writer and Newsletter Editor

Garima joined her role with MentorUP in summer of 2019 as a content writer. She soon stepped up to volunteer her services as newsletter editor. She has experience in writing articles on social issues and science communications. She promotes the increasing diversity in engineering & technology and is engaged in writing a blog-series on the contribution of women in engineering/STEM.

Garima has chemical engineering background and is currently working as a post doctoral researcher in Faculty of Engineering at University of Alberta. She is working on industry-sponsored synthetic fuels research to convert bio-derived material to aviation turbine fuels. She has recently published her authored book on extractive metallurgy and waste management. In her spare time, she loves painting, reading novels and dancing.

Md Monir Hossain

Member at Large, MentorUP Alberta – Edmonton 

Monir has been a volunteer with MentorUP Alberta – Edmonton chapter since October 2019. In his time with MentorUP, he has represented MentorUP in networking and social events. He has also contributed in organizing MentorU events.

Monir is currently an MSc student at the University of Alberta majoring in Software Engineering & Intelligent systems. His research is at the intersection of data analytics, machine learning & IoT for smart banking & smart home. He was a system engineer at Grameenphone (a concern of Telenor Group) for a couple of years before pursuing his MSc. He loves contributing to the community through volunteering and is involved with several organizations in Edmonton like Technology Alberta, Google Developer Group (GDG) Edmonton Chapter, Electrical & Computer Engineering Graduate Students' Association (ECEGSA - UofA), Graduate Students' Association (GSA - UofA) and Bangladeshi Students' Association at the University of Alberta (BSAUA).

Aditya Bansod

Member at Large, MentorUP Alberta – Edmonton 

Aditya began volunteering for MentorUp in November 2019. Passionate about skill attainment, leadership and continuous learning, he is an active member of the professional development team. He believes that networking, organizational and communication skills are the key drivers to success and establishes relations with industry professionals as speakers for the MentorU series of events.

Aditya holds a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta. His focus is modeling, simulation and optimization of gas processing systems. He currently works as a Process Engineer at Stamped Engineering Corporation. He aspires to grow each day with a goal of giving back to the community. In addition, Aditya maintains his work-life balance by playing soccer, badminton, swimming and indulging in music.

Juan Sebastian Marin

Member at Large, MentorUP Alberta – Edmonton 

Juan is a mechanical engineer coming from Colombia, which loves designing solutions for different engineering problems. Juan has completed his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta and is currently working as the leader of three research projects. Along his career path he has learned the importance of self-improvement, and that is why he loves learning new things, developing new skills, and connecting with new people.

Juan started volunteering with MetorUp in December 2019. He has participated in promoting Job Club and inviting individuals from the industry to participate in events. Juan has expressed that volunteering with MentorUp is a wonderful excuse to network with people and learn about their career paths.
